A less complicated to run Ubuntu on phones with Android

Being able to run Ubuntu on phones with Android is already a long time, but until now the process was considerably more complicated, discouraging almost all potential candidates, except for a handful of power-users fearless.

A user of the Xda-Developers came up with a tip much simpler to do this, distribute a preconfigured image of Ubuntu 10.10 with LXDE and a set of applications, besides the good old apt, ready to install any of the packages compiled ARM processors available in the repositories:

his is a generic image that can be theoretically used on any device with root access. Users of devices with only 256 MB of RAM (like Milestone) will have performance problems, but the vast majority of devices with 512 MB should run it without major difficulties. The installation process is to copy the system image (3.5 GB) and the start up script to the same folder on the memory card ( see the thread for the download links). From there, open a terminal with root access, access the folder and run "sh ubuntu.sh" to shoot the script that starts the boot.

Ubuntu runs in the background, similar to the Motorola Atrix Laptop Mode and you connect to the server using a graphical VNC client to connect on port 5900 of local host. Using VNC causes the responsiveness of the system is not particularly good, and the weight of Ubuntu makes the battery life is brutally reduced, not to mention that the interface is not exactly optimized for use on phones. However, the satisfaction of running a working copy of Ubuntu without ever having to leave the Android will make many forget all the negative points. Needless to say that Ubuntu serves as a "laptop mode" for devices with HDMI output, just connect it to a TV and use a bluetooth keyboard.

If you by a Nintendo Ds,Wii or other game systems you pay a fortune for games that kids will get bored with shortly after. This is why I think that an Ipod touch for Kids is an Awesome investment for Moms and Dads. This will open up a world of Free games and you can also buy games that are 99 cents compared to 50.00 and up. To buy an Ipod touch for kids you can by any generation, I wouldn't suggest 1st Gen, because that one doesn't have an external Speaker. I would suggest buying second-hand because you will save lots of money and your child will love it just as much, with or without the box, that will just be thrown away.

Education and the Ipod touch-This system has alot of fun learning games for kids from Alphabet to Math and reading, you can even download E-books.

No wires and cords or games to lose everything is stored on the ipod touch memory. When picking out size for storage I would suggest that an 8gb is plenty of storage room for kid's apps. You can also Delete games that are not being used.

Parental Settings-You can disable the safari browser,email, and more. There are certain apps that come with the ipod touch but you can password protect these and they disappear from the home screen.

Easy to use kids friendly.All the games and apps will be right on the home screen and kids can click on the picture of the one they would like to open, you can also make folders and organize them if you wish.

Durability-Some people say that the ipod touch screen is very easy to break, although My two boys 5 & 6 have been using theirs and it has been squashed in the couch cushions and tossed by mistake and not a single scratch on it. If for some reason the screen does break you can by the replacement screen tools and instructions to change for 10 dollars on Ebay. Alot cheaper than if a Game system breaks down like the Ds or wii

Variety- Kids will not get bored with lots of variety of games and most are free my son has hundreds of games and apps on his.

Downloading apps-Very simple and doesn't take very much time.For the impatient child waiting lol : )

I think that with all the systems that we have bought including the V smile The Ipod Touch is my Favorite for my Kids and I would recommend it to anyone for Kids of any age. This system will grow with them and will not be bored with in a couple of months

Acquiring Genuine Parts

One of the primary keys to restoring a classic auto is acquiring genuine parts wherever possible. This applies to every aspect of the vehicle, including the body, engine, suspension, and every other part. It is understood that some items can not be replaced with genuine parts from the same make and model. Belts, hoses, and vacuum lines are subject to dry rot or other damage that makes it impossible to rely on original replacements.

Buy Two or More

Ideally, one should be able to acquire two or more vehicles of the make and model he/she wants to restore. The one that is in the best condition should become the base upon which one builds to create a genuine restoration. Parts from any other autos of this model on hand that are in good condition should be used on the restored vehicle.

Finding Body Parts

Genuine parts should be available from most junkyards. Body parts may be more difficult to come by due to the tendency to crush and/or recycle vehicles that are removed from service. However, one can find a nearly intact body of the desired model in the hands of a collector or a junkyard that specializes in parting out autos.

The Vintage Car Engine

Engines and parts of engines should be available from many of these same sources. Whenever possible, one should acquire an engine from the same make and model and rebuild it from the block up. Pistons and piston rings may need to be replaced with new parts, though if this is the case, it is important to have the replacements machined to the same specifications as the originals.

If Authentic Parts Not Available

Any parts that have to be replaced with modern counterparts should be kept to as close to the original factory specs as possible. In many cases, this may result in one having to have parts specially machined and manufactured because authentic parts are not available and have no modern counterparts that are even close in size and shape.

Some items, such as seats may be gotten from wrecked vehicles, but need to be reworked. It is not uncommon to need to reupholster the seats in a classic auto when restoring them. Most upholstery providers will have something on hand or available to them that is a match for the original seat coverings that came out in the car.

It is important, if reupholstering classic vehicle seats, that one use as close to the same techniques as were in use at the time of the car's manufacture. This will help make the job as authentic as possible.
